Metcalf Hall was made possible largely in part by a donation of land and a contribution by a man by the name of Stephen O. Metcalf. Constructed in 1919, it was the second dormitory built on the Pembroke College campus, Miller Hall being the first. In 2013, Metcalf, Miller and Andrews Halls were renovated. Upgrades included both interior and exterior finishes and conversion of singles to doubles to create a second area on campus devoted to First Year housing. The project was designed to be LEED Gold rating.
