Sternlicht Commons is a new residence hall at Brown University that opened in May 2021. It is located at 450 Brook St. in Providence, Rhode Island, near Pembroke Field and Thayer Street. It houses 162 upper-division students who are interested in developing and sustaining holistic, integrative well-being practices in community with one another. Sternlicht Commons is also part of the Brown University Health & Wellness Center, which provides various programs and services for students’ physical and emotional well-being, such as Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Brown Emergency Medical Services and BWell. The center was enabled by generous donations from the family of the late Duncan MacMillan and Barry Sternlicht and Mimi Reichert Sternlicht. Sternlicht Commons offers singles and suites with single bathrooms and open common areas that feature bright natural daylight and views of Pembroke Field. It also has state-of-the-art common kitchen areas and relaxing rooftop and ground-floor green spaces. Students who live in Sternlicht Commons are expected to design and implement programming in conjunction with BWell Health Promotion and Residential Education staff, and to share their knowledge and practices with the wider Brown community. Sternlicht Commons is a unique and innovative facility that aims to promote health, happiness and well-being for Brown students in a supportive and vibrant environment.
